String Crossing II

This week we follow up with some string crossing, using last weeks string skipping lesson as a building block.
Notice that in the following exercises, we are effectively playing the same type of motions we did last week.

Hopefully last weeks exercises make playing these a whole lot easier. If you missed last week, check the lesson out, and spend a bit of time working the exercises up to tempo. This will make this weeks lesson substantially easier.

After practicing these exercises up to speed for some time, you will find that most 3 note per string scales and sequences you use become easier to play at speed.

Tips:

  • Use a metronome.

  • Use alternate picking and start each exercise with a down stroke.

  • Start extremely slowly and speed up gradually.

  • Remember to isolate the means whereby you cross strings, and work on that. This is what the exercise is designed for.

  • Phrase as triplets.

  • Repeat the pattern on all string sets and move up and down the neck

  • Remember, don't hit the strings by accident as you cross over them.

  • I have included an ascending and descending version of the exercise. Try to apply the same concepts to 2 strings of all 3 note per string patterns you use.

The exercise:

Once again, the key is C and you can use the 8th fret 'C' note on the high E string as your guide for changing key on this stringset.
