Featured LessonTips for Tuning a Floyd Rose
Equipped Guitar Lets look at ways to take the pain out of tuning a floating bridge guitar. Once you adopt these methods, tuning becomes a lot easier and quicker. First of all, realize that while you are tuning, you are essentially adjusting a "balance" and in doing so, you adjust your trem angle. For this reason, I would recommend a good electronic tuner, this way you know you are always tuning to the pitch your guitar was set up for, the same way, every time. This may sound trivial, but it is necessary for attain some sort of consistency in the guitar setup. If you do not have a guitar tuner, at least try to tune to pitch using another instrument, midi note, pitch pipe etc. Tuning the guitar to itself with no true pitch reference point is not recommended. The main point of the method I am going to explain below, is to tune evenly across the stings. Keep this concept in mind as this is the key to successful floyd tuning. Remember, before the lock nuts are clamped and you are using the tuning keys, If you are sounding sharp and need to tune lower, lower the pitch beyond the required and tune UP to pitch. This makes sure there is no string slack being caught up anywhere and you may find it easier on the ear if you are comparing to another note. Here's the how to tune evenly across the strings: Using your tuner, tune the strings to pitch in the following sequence: (Assume standard tuning) G String Repeat once or twice and you should
be in tune. Cheers 'till next time. |
